Hanover Band August Bank Holiday Concert

Jorge Jiménez Rethinking Bach

Celebrated violinist, Jorge Jiménez, returns to St Nicholas’ for the Arundel Festival with an afternoon concert at St Nicholas’.

With his eclectic solo violin programs, Jorge has toured extensively throughout Europe, South America, and Canada. Performing in Istanbul, Seville, Barcelona, ​​Biecz, Swidnica, Krakow, London, Manchester, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Varazdin, Montreal, Cochabamba and, of course, Arundel.

Service of Healing

Father Andrew leads a service of prayer for healing on Tuesday 9th July at 6.30 pm at St Nicholas.

Come unto me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Summer Fete

St Nicholas' annual summer fete was on Saturday 29th June.

The fete was opened by Lord Henry, Earl of Arundel, and songs by Arundel CE School.

People from across the parish and visitors to the town all enjoyed a day of fun, music, bargains and food. It was a happy, even joyful occasion, full of sunshine and smiles.

Early indications suggest that the fete raised around £10,000 towards the running and upkeep of Arundel's parish church.

Ordination of Timothy Newton

Timothy Newton was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Lewes in a moving service at St Nicholas' on Sunday 23rd June.

It is a joy to welcome Fr Tim along with his wife, Stephanie, and children Winnie and Rupert to the parishes.

Fr Tim, who's originally from Queensland, spent some time as an opera singer, including a year singing for Deutsche Oper as a young artist, before moving to St Stephen's House Oxford to train for ordination.

He will serve as assistant curate in the parishes of Arundel with Tortington and South Stoke.

Voices from the Centuries

Date: Sunday 18th August

The Friends of St Leonard's present a collage of readings and histories, travelling into the past of one downland hamlet, with Writer and Historian, Alexandra Harris, author of “Weatherland” and now the acclaimed “The Rising Down”

Tickets cost £15 and include entry and a drinks reception.

Ordination

Date: Sunday 23rd June
Time: 11.00 am

Timothy Newton will be ordained deacon by the Rt Revd Will Hazelwood, Bishop of Lewes, to serve as curate in our parishes.

Following the service, which starts at the later time of 11.00 am, there will be refreshments.

It's a great pleasure to welcome Timothy and his family to Arundel.

 

Summer Fete

Date: Saturday 29th June
Time: 11 am - 3 pm

St Nicholas' annual fete is a fun outing for all the family.

We have lots of stalls, children's games, BBQ, Pimms and Beer and a pop-up café in the church.

There's also lots of live music, including Joe Butt, Elevator Annie and guests, Frank Register, Kayla and the Cards, Janey Gardiner, Arundel School Choir and Irish Dancers.

This is a real community event in aid of Arundel's historic parish church.

 

Friends of Tortington Event

Date: Sunday 12th May
Time: 3.00 pm
Venue: St Mary's Tortington

John Godfrey, an engaging and knowledgeable local historian, gives an illustrated overview of the war years and the impact on our local area.

The talk will be followed by refreshments and a chance to enjoy the building and churchyard. All this leading up to, at 4 pm, a performance by the Barbershop Quartet, with some of the music reflecting the mid-1900s.

Admission is free but donations to the work of the Friends of Tortington would be much appreciated.

The Ascension of the Lord

We celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on Thursday 9th May with a Sung Mass at St Nicholas' as 7.00 pm.

One of the principal days of the Christian year, the Ascension of the Lord marks the assent of Jesus' glorified body into heaven forty days after the resurrection.
