Tortington Church

Tortington Patronal Festival

We celebrate the Patronal Festival of St Mary Magdalene Tortington on Sunday 20th July at 4.00 pm

Tortington church, which dates from the 12th century, is dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. Mary was one of the women who accompanied our Lord and ministered to him. She was present at the foot of the Cross and witnessed the placing of Christ in the tomb. Notably, she was the first recorded eyewitness of his Resurrection. John describes in some detail her remarkable experience at Christ’s tomb, where she met the risen Lord and carried from him a message to the disciples: “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”
